ABOUT THE WMDC:
Mission Statement: Warner Mountain Dance Center's (WMDC)goal is to foster a safe learning environment where students are free to explore their passion for dance. In order to fulfill the passions and desires of aspiring dancers of all ages and abilities. The WMDC offers comprehensive artistic education through rigorous lesson plans and specialty weeks such as; "Love Your Body Week," "Musicality," and "Characterization in Dance." The WMDC seeks to develop an understanding of technique, discipline, and knowledge of dance (and related history) through an intricate curriculum and cutting edge choreography. In addition, a key goal for WMDC is to instill within dancers an enthusiasm to have a positive impact within the community.
History (About): The Warner Mountain Dance Center was opened in January of 2014 by Studio Owner, Nikita Santino. It began as a small, passion based place of dance education. The lesson plans for each class are developed by the owner, and used in every class to provide students with a systematic process to improve their technique, skill and artistic expression in dance. WMDC studio standards are high, the focus is on empowering students as they explore their passions. The studio owner believes in training dancers to be aware of their anatomical [joint] structure so they are better poised to be successful in dance and other athletic interests. "We want to ensure dancers can continue to explore all of their passions by reducing their potential for injury."
The main presentation of the studio is a themed Spring Performance, announced at the beginning of each Performance Season, which runs September - June. Each performance is based on a story and is used to demonstrate the increased skills of the dancers in both ability and artistry. Themes are carefully selected and each dance is viewed in conjunction with the overall concept. Dancers have required attendance through the entire season to be involved in the end production. (Refer to; Spring Performance.)
The studio is celebrating it's 10th anniversary season performance for season 2023/24.

Studio Owner / Head Instructor: Nikita Santino
Warner Mountain Dance Center is founded and directed by Nikita Santino. Born and raised in Oregon. Nikita has been engaged in dance for 30+ years, and has been a teacher for 15+ years. Teaching both at private institutions and teacher training at the collegiate level. She has enthusiastically explored many styles of dance with a focus on Ballet, Contemporary, and Jazz. Nikita is the first to graduate from Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. During her time at Pacific, she both taught (as an Assistant Teacher) and choreographed many works as a part of the Autumns Choreographer's Concert and Spring Works Performance. In addition, Nikita also choreographed various special works for Pacific University's Chamber Choir, and on multiple occasions the Pacific Theatre group.
Always having expressed a desire to move to a small town. Nikita moved to Alturas in 2013. Happy to put down roots she opened the studio in 2014. She holds a day job to allow the passion of the dance studio to speak for itself. She has assisted the Modoc Theatre group, "MPAT," with their production of "Annie." (Members of MPAT were also participants of "Alice in What" 2021 Spring Show.) Engaged in expanding the performing arts education program offered through the studio. Nikita has continued her education; receiving certification through additional dance programs; such as, Acrobatic Arts, Progressing Ballet Technique, and in the process of completing 500 YTT Yoga Certification. She is excited to expand the community offerings of the studio, and grow the available space for additional instructors. |
Hip-Hop Instructor: Mallory Adams
Born in Hollister, CA, Mallory was raised predominantly in Clayton, CA in the east Bay Area but also split her time with our neighboring Lakeview, OR. She began dancing ballet at the age of 6 and quickly developed a passion for dance, adding to her classes each year. While in the Bay Area, she danced several days per week, training in ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop, participating in both performance and competition teams predominantly in the jazz and hip-hop genres. After moving to Valencia, CA in 2004, she additionally added lyrical and step team to her list of many classes and continued participating on various teams.
While a knee injury and permanent relocation to Lakeview ultimately halted her career as a dancer in 2006, she has always had a passion for dance and has long dreamed of teaching and sharing that passion with dancers eager to learn more. After living in Lakeview for 12 years, Mallory and her children relocated to Alturas in 2018 where both of her daughters have participated in dance at Warner Mountain Dance Center since coming to the area and have loved learning under the direction of Nikita. Mallory is excited to bring hip-hop to our community and is looking forward to working with students on this new adventure. |
